Picked up Grief is the thing with feathers at the Festival of Writing and Ideas last weekend. After the talk with author Max Porter and Enda Walsh and Cillian Murphy, I wanted to get the feel of the book that’s been on my to read list for a while!
It’s a short book which is attractive to me as I have many to read. I finished it in a couple of bedtime reading sittings. It’s a poem, a novel, a rant, a memoir, a drama and it’s mostly lovely and sad. I loved the father’s voice when he remembers the wife he lost to a tragic accident. I love the two young boys and the tales they tell about their mother and how they help their Dad grieve alongside them. The crow motif / character was just that. Needed nut unlikeable. Language everywhere with the crow. I mostly loved the third act and the last few pages are emotional and deserving of a stand up encore from the reading audience!
